Why Have Affiliate Programs Become So Popular?

Affiliate programs have become very popular because there are so few restrictions to joining one; age, race, creed, gender, disability, or color have no bearing on an Affiliate's success or failure.

But ultimately the reasons for being so popular are many and varied, not the least of which is the abundance of excellent programs throughout the Web readily available to anyone with access to a computer, and they are Free to join.

The Affiliate industry is witnessing the fastest growth of any other program on the Internet.

Merchants, the smart ones at least, have never been happier since the Affiliate marketing scheme had gained prominence with Amazon.com back in 1996. Getting Affiliates to promote their products online is a convenient, cost-effective method for generating sales on a global scale.

No longer having to concern themselves with the hiring, firing, training, hand-holding, and diaper changing of sales team members, merchants feel as if their prayers have finally been answered.

A Merchant's obligation to an Affiliate is to provide readily available custom made banners for website display purposes, along with appealing text ads, and a professionally generated sales letter tailor-made for their product.

Oh, and let's not forget a Merchant's biggest and most important obligation to their Affiliates, getting those monthly commission checks out on a timely basis.

The Affiliate program is predicated on the law of averages driving the Merchants success; the more Affiliates a Merchant can encourage to their program, the more sales are likely to occur.

Merchants do have a right to be selective about who they choose to represent their products, and no one can fault them for being extra careful, after all certain sites may not be appropriate to display their products, and there is nothing wrong with maintaining high product standards.

I believe most if not all Affiliates would expect nothing less?

And what about the Affiliates themselves, what benefits can they expect to derive from all their hard work and effort?

The benefits are tenfold:

  • Affiliate programs are usually free to join; low cost to no cost entry
  • Can be worked on a Part-time, Full-time, Spare-time basis
  • Can be worked from the comfort of home
  • No door knocking looking for customers
  • No face-to-face selling
  • No inventory to purchase and stock in your garage or basement
  • No shipping costs to worry about; all handled by the merchant
  • No money to collect, handled by Clickbank, PayPal or other service company
  • Affiliates work the hours they want, for as long as they want
  • Affiliates love being their own boss
Once an Affiliate program is set up and running, it will continue to promote itself uninterrupted 24/7 on the Internet without the Affiliate having to constantly monitor and check it. Just watch for those monthly checks to come in.

And unless you make your personal life known to the general public, the customer will never know who you are, where you are from, your nationality, your religious or political beliefs, or anything else about you through the anonymity of the Internet, and quite frankly, most really don't care to know.

The lack of restrictions afforded everyone who wishes to become an Affiliate has, in reality, made the Internet the one true legitimate "Equal Opportunity Employer" in the world. Just think about that for a moment.

Everyone, no matter their circumstances in life, has before them a boundless opportunity to succeed as an Affiliate on the Internet, and the only thing to stop them, is themselves.
