Getting Rich With Affiliate Programs
by: Eric White © 2006

Affiliate programs are essentially commission-based sales schemes. You recommend a product to your customers and receive a percentage of sales your customers purchase has generated.

First, you benefit from the commission, and secondly, the site benefits from sales it it might otherwise have missed. If you've ever visited a website and seen banners or links to Amazon, those are affiliate links.

There are two ways to run an affiliate program. One is from a site you've already got up and running, or two, you can create a site specifically to promote someone's product or service. You know you're ahead of the game, when it brings in more cash than you spend on building it and drumming up traffic.

Joining An Affiliate Program
************************************************************

Like any other business venture you may want to get into, you need to be careful when selecting an affiliate program. The benefit of any affiliate program is that it allows you to make money from website purchases, instead of having to sell the product yourself.

The key to success is choosing the right program for you, right from the beginning.

And the biggest temptation is going for the program that pays the highest commissions, because we all want to make the most money in the shortest time possible.

The problem could be that the product is overpriced, of inferior quality, or generally has a bad reputation for reliability. So if people aren't buying then it doesn't matter how big a commission they offer, is it?

Here are some tips to selecting an affiliate program that is
lucrative and right for you:

* Don't accept less than 25% commission. You can find
affiliate programs with great payment structures and high
percentages of the purchase price in just about every
field.

* Look for comprehensive statistics pages that list the
number of click-through's, sales and earnings so you can
see how you're doing. The information should be broken down
by month.

* Look for programs that offer a wide variety of
promotional tools to put on your Web page, including text
links, banners and graphics.

* Find out how often you will be paid and make sure that
the payment schedule meets your expectations. Some
programs pay monthly, others quarterly; which is best for you?

* Look for examples of marketing methods that successful
affiliates are using to get the best results.

* Make sure that top level support is given. If they can't
answer your questions promptly and intelligently, you
don't want to get involved with any of their affiliate
programs.

Affiliate programs offer a viable solution to competing
against larger competitors and still make money. As the
saying goes, if you can't beat them, join them!
Until next time,
