eBook Publishing Bonanza Awaits You

Once upon a time you had to prepare a manuscript to exacting standards, send it to a publisher, and wait months and months before even getting the damn rejection slip.

My, how times have changed since eBook publishing software has arrived on the scene.

Now anyone can self-publish an eBook for pennies, and make mega-Bucks doing it too.

Can you believe there are over 150 million Internet users throughout North America alone, and approximately 75,000 new users go online every single day.

Personal computers, Blackerrys, cell phones, Palm Pilots, iPods and other Internet ready devices are everywhere we look these days, and we are no longer surprised to see these gadgets in the hands of everyone from school-age children to grandparents.

Another Internet revolution of sorts is underway in the form of eBooks, and it is having an equally impressive impact on the publishing community.

It's really not too much of a surprise when you consider there is little comparison to be made between hard cover book publishing, and the digitized eBook version sweeping the online world.

Unlike hard cover books, where a budding author would be luckier at winning a lottery than ever having an opportunity to see their book on the shelves of the local book store, eBook software has made becoming an author as simple as clicking a mouse.

Some might argue the system is too simple, that even simple morons can now author and publish an eBook.

Yeah, and that's supposed to be a problem of some sort?

Do you know how many so-called morons out there are running around with some pretty outstanding ideas in their head, and no avenue to express those thoughts. Not anymore.

Now they can collectively be heard, on a legitimate platform, and just like watching television, if someone so chooses to tune them out they can. Don't buy the eBook.

More importantly, the many undiscovered authors bursting to write a book now have an unprecedented opportunity to publish an eBook on the Internet, and have it immediately available to a potential readership of millions of waiting customers.

To really appreciate what a gift publishing an eBook can be, you need to grasp a few facts about trying to get a hard cover book published the old stone-age way, through your regular run-of-the-mill book publisher.

So follow along about a few facts on the book publishing industry you may not have known.

First time authors struggle to get published by sending off their printed manuscripts to any publishing house they think might read their manuscript.

They then sit around month after dreary month waiting for the dreaded rejection slip to arrive in the mail box.

Worse yet, when nothing arrives, not even the formidable rejection slip because the publishing house could not be bothered to reply, the would be writer is left with a sinking feeling that maybe the manuscript never even reached the publisher. Perhaps, they convince themselves, it got lost in the mail.

Even when a new writer has been accepted, one of the biggest misconceptions in their thinking is that the publisher will also promote their book when they agree to publish it. That's not even in their budget. Think again.

The closest thing to any kind of promotion a publisher will do, is to give the book to a publisher's rep to try and place it in stores. That's it.

They figure it's enough they put up the funds to manufacture the book in the first place, now you go out and promote it. Have you ever promoted anything in your life before, especially a book? No? I didn't think so, neither have I, and I sure wouldn't want to start now.

Time is a huge factor in the book publishing industry, and not because it's important.

A new budding author eventually starts to feel like the publishers think there's all the time in the world to get a book out in the stores, and damn the starving author.

Think in terms of three to four, even five years sometimes to have a book finally published, and never forget, there's still this thing about having to go out a promote it yourself because it is even written in the contract.

Here's the really how part to swallow when you turn your book over to a publisher, you will lose some/part/or full control of your book if it gets published. Can you believe that?

The very fine print on the contract will stipulate that the publisher has a free hand to make any changes it deems necessary in your book. That's scary stuff considering all the blood, sweat, and tears a poor author pours into their book.

And it doesn't end there. There's more, far too much more to mention it all here, but here are a few tidbits to chew on.

Let's start with the three month shelf life unwritten rule. If after three months a book is still sitting on the shelves unsold, it is either sold to a liquidator, or is garage saled for pennies.

What about the royalties, you ask? Don't hold your breath, the cards are stacked against the new author right from the beginning.

Unless you are a renown, firmly established author, you stand little to no chance of ever making a dime from the book publishing industry.

As a result, some authors were forced to go the self-publishing route.

Self publishing is a good choice provided you have big bucks to carry it through from start to finish, to the tune of anywhere from $12,000 to $20,000.

Folks, we're only talking 2500 to 4000 copies here, and you'd better have a good salesperson with connections in the industry to place them in stores for you, or you may not be able to park the car in the garage for a while. Oh, and don't forget, the salesperson has to get paid as well, first, before they will even consider peddling your books. Sorry.

Enter the modern-day Saviour, eBook publishing

The number one and two selling items on the Internet in North America are "Software and eBooks". This means if you are planning to author an eBook to sell on the Internet, there'll be a very large, responsive market waiting for you in the information segment.

The one big difference, your books will now be eBooks; not hard cover, but digitized so orders can be instantaneously filled over the Internet. That's it, that's all there is to it. No mystery here. No three years to get to market. No sitting on shelves, gathering dust, waiting to be picked up.

How does all this add up for a new budding author, you ask?

In not so many words, here's how:

  • 100 percent control over your eBook
  • No rejection slips sitting in your mailbox
  • No publisher or agent to deal with
  • No extra added costs to worry about
  • No contracts to sign
  • Marketing is done online through your website or...
  • Let Clickbank sell your book through their Affiliate network
  • No inventory to purchase, ever, it's all digitized
  • No packing, shipping costs, ebook delivered over the Internet
  • No Royalties to pay out to someone else
  • You keep 100 percent of the money, not 10, 25 or 35 percent
  • Money goes straight into your bank with each sale
  • Except for Clickbank or PayPal there are no commissions to pay out
  • Add/update your ebook whenever you feel like it
  • Charge whatever the market will bear
  • eBook Software inexpensive, easy-to-learn
  • Immediate world-wide Internet customer base of millions of potential customers
Well, what're you waiting for, you want me to write that book for you too?
