Simple SEO Techniques For Website Improvements
by: Shayne Genoway © Copyright 2007

Search engine optimization (SEO) techniques are far too easily ignored, and cannot be taken for granted without paying dire consequences.

The question at the tip of your tongue right now may well be: Exactly what SEO techniques should I utilize on my website?

I will concentrate on a couple simple but important ones to start, bearing in mind that not much more can be covered in an article.

SEO can be summed up in three parts: designing, content, and HTML.

Keywords should be one of your main considerations to being with, but never at the complete exclusion of other equally important areas.

Some webmasters are under the mistaken impression that loading all the keywords possible will give them a better search engine ranking. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Front loading an article with all the important "keywords" you can possibly think of is destined to leave even the best written Article flat, dull, and most likely unreadable.

Not to mention possibly being considered for spamming on some search engines, and this is a very important consideration when placing your keywords in the content.

Be selective, not repetitive, and use keyword phrases as well.

Setting up for your keywords is an all encompassing facet of SEO not solely directed at the content, but also involving meta tags, the title, and your headers.

A marriage between both content and keyword selection should be your immediate goal and will go far to appeasing the SEO requirements, and those of your readers.

Let's briefly touch on Headings, since this is an area you can zero in on quickly.

Headings such as your title, can sometimes have greater search engine weight than the content in an article. Work at building the title around your website theme or niche, using related keywords.

The title can make or break the staying time of a visitor to your site, so focus in on that niche, and be very creative. Experts indicate you have approximately 7 seconds to convince a visitor to stay.

That's not much more than a few blinks of an eye.

In that short amount of time, your title must have the kind of immediate impact value that will convince a visitor to actually move their finger from the mouse button, long enough, to convince them not to click away to another website.

That is how fine a line you have to work with, and should be a big indicator on the importance good SEO techniques have on the success of your website.

Bold your title using H1, H2, and H3 fonts. This will carry greater search engine weight than normal text.

Once again, you win on both counts by using this powerful but simple technique because it allows you to make certain words stick out to the reader, and to the search engine spiders.

You can also utilize this concept to emphasize key points as well, but be careful not to over use it or your copy will look lame and may drive-away some readers.

I certainly hope these simple SEO techniques will assist in moving your website to a more defined SEO direction, and more importantly, show that you can never learn enough about this most essential part of building your website for success.

What I have talked about here has barely scratched the surface.
